Yesterday was Aaron's last day here. We spent the day together finishing up all the stuff that needed to be done around the house- mowing the lawn, planting a tree, etc. Before Aaron had to be on base, we took him to get his favorite meal... a cheeseburger. The guy is so easy to please. We had a little extra time so we decided to make a quick trip to the park.
This particular park is close to Aaron's office on base. We've visited it many times but never noticed the big tree seen behind us. I had a woman we didn't know snap a family picture and I'm so glad I did- this is probably my all time favorite picture of us together.
After our trip to the park we met up with our good friends Aracely, Blake, and Greaser. Both Blake and Greaser are in the same company, as other LT's and platoon leaders. We're glad they are here :) Ezmeralda is a month and a day older than Claire and has the sweetest personality.
When it came time to leave, it got pretty emotional. The kids made us laugh for a while which helped, but then Gabe lost it and it about did Aaron and I in. We're not sure how much he understands- he can say daddy will be gone for a long time and he will cry, but at not even 2 1/2, I'm not sure if his brain really "gets it." Either way, he cried the whole time home saying "where my daddy go?"
About an hour after we got home last night, we got a surprise message that his flight was delayed and he needed to be picked up. Claire had put my phone in the toilet while I grabbed her pajamas (thankfully, I think it's working this morning.. our house is a dead zone for cell signal and the iPhone is the only phone that works here. Needless to say, I NEED it to work during this deployment.) and I was without a phone. Gotta love the Internet! Anyway, the kids were already in bed so I had to wake them up to go get Aaron. He was able to stay home until 3 am this morning, when we loaded the kids up again and took off.
Please keep my soldier, his company, and all of our families in your prayers. It's going to be a long year.
