Phases.

Ok fellow moms, time for some questions. Gabe has hit some interesting phases lately.

1- He used to be a GREAT table food eater. He has been eating what we eat since he was about 9 months old, with some modifications. Lately, though, he has completely given up eating any solid food besides fruit snacks and teddy grahams. He is SO hard to get to eat anything other than those two snacks and yogurt and applesauce. Any advice, tricks, or similar stories?

2- He has recently become SO shy. He is terrified of strangers. When we went to the Zoo Boo, he would plant his feet and fall to the ground if I tried to nudge him along to trick-or-treat. If we're in a big open area, like the walkway, he's fine... but if it involves going up to people, or in a small space, he totally freaks out. When we visited my grandpa the other day, a woman in a wheelchair came up to him singing nursery rhymes and Gabe wrapped himself around my legs and started crying. Normal at 13 months?

3- We recently took away the paci at all times. I actually cut them up and put them in the trash! There are still some tears at nap times, but overall Gabe is doing great. He still gets a bottle and gets rocked at night (we're not going to cross that bridge until he has fully mastered nap times... and until we've settled in our new house) but he doesn't get the paci then anymore either. My question is that he has started biting/chewing/sucking his hands now? Advice?

I'm not sure if both #1 and #3 are related to teething. He's had some loose stools, so he might be cutting his molars, but I'm feeling a little lost in my mothering right now. Help?

I would say the food and the shyness are totally normal-we are having trouble with Jacob and eating too! Just dig in your heels and don't give in. We always tell ourselves that he won't starve himself and will eventually eat what we put in front of him. He doesn't like leftovers, so we try to switch things up.
I think all kids go through a shy phase-but everyone does it differently-enjoy the moments when he only wants you-it doesn't last long:P
Way to go on the paci-we still haven't given it up for naps or bed!!

Owen totally went through the not eating thing...and he is still a pretty picky eater. Now that he's older though we can reason with him a little and say things like "no snack or dessert if you dont eat a few bites of...(whatever it is he's not real into!) He wont go hungry :) Just keep giving him whatever you guys are eating and eventually he'll try it!

And awesome job on the paci! We still give it to Owen during naps & bedtime..and I dont see that ending anytime soon haha :)
