Our recent trip to Colorado was so much fun! We stayed with the new Mr. and Mrs. Simpson and loved every minute. Thank you, Phil and Tricia, for opening your beautiful home to us and being such gracious hosts!
We had an early flight out of Nashville (aka wake up call of 2 am) and landed in Denver around 8 am. Luckily, our flight was pretty uneventful as both kids slept. We were really worried about it since it was Claire's first flight and Gabe had another double ear infection. We dragged all of our luggage (and trust me, there was a LOT with two kids...) through the airport and onto a bus to pick up our rental car. That took forever and we didn't get on the road until 9:30 or so. By then, we were hungry so we stopped in Castle Rock. While we were in a drive-thru line, Claire started fussing to eat so then we had to stop and feed her. I'm pretty sure it was close to 11 before we actually got to the Simpsons, ha ha.
Since the day was so nice, we decided to head to the local zoo. We tried to get Gabe to feed the giraffes, but he was scared. He would stick his hand out with a cracker on it and every time the giraffe's tounge would come close to him he would jump back. It was pretty funny.
The Simpsons treated us all to cotton candy and slushies. They were so good but made for such a tummy ache later- too much junk food in one weekend!
We had some beautiful views over looking the city. Aaron and I had been to this zoo before but didn't remember it being so large or so nice.
By the end of the day, I was so exhausted. That night the Simpsons had some friends over to play games and enjoy snacks but when I went downstairs to put Gabe to bed, I fell asleep too. Needless to say, it was an early night for me :)
The next day was Old Colorado City's Frontier Days so we headed out to enjoy it. We had lunch at Bon Ton's Cafe, a local favorite where Phil is fairly well known for his frequent visits (and I'm sure Tricia will be soon!) After enjoying a great meal, we took to the streets and ventured around all of the booths and activities.
Since we only brought a single stroller, G got to spend lots of time being carried and riding in Claire's car seat like a little babe. I'm pretty sure he loved the extra attention, especially when Tricia held him or pushed the buggy. He seemed to have developed a little crush on her and listened to every word she would say!
This little train ride was probably the highlight of Gabe's trip. I was nervous he would try and jump out but he stayed seated the whole time. He spun his wheel like a mad man and smiled so big. When the ride was over, he cried and clung to the wheel while Aaron stripped his hands off. Anytime he would see the train he would try and run back to it!
He also got to have some old fashioned root bear. Needless to say, he loved it... and he practiced his chugging abilities. I have a feeling this will be his future in about 20 years. Yikes. Maybe he'll take on after his dad and drink 6 Mountain Dew's every day.
Claire just hung out on the grass while we listened to some live music. She was a good little baby and actually slept most of the day. When she finally decided she was hungry, I left to go feed her and Phil took Gabe down some slides. I didn't get any pictures of it since I took the camera with me, but I heard he had a great time!
